Patient selection: adult with chronic atrial fibrillation
Significant risk factors:
(1) valvular heart disease
(2) history of prior cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
(3) congestive heart failure with ejection fraction < 25%
(4) hypertension
(5) age < 75 years of age
