Rosinsky et al reported an algorithm for the diagnosis of a symptomatic hip abductor tear. The authors are from the American Hip Institute Research Foundation, Des Moines University, and AMITA Health in Chicago.
Hip abductors: gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and tensor fascia lata.
Patient selection: hip disorder, possibly of the hip abductor
Examination: hip arthroscopy
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) sex
(3) body mass index (BMI) in kg per sq meter
(4) lateral joint space in mm
(5) alpha angle in degrees in the 45° Dunn view
