Description

Chan et al used the Albumin-Bilirubin (ALBI) score for predicting the prognosis for a patient with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Partner State Key Laboratory of Digestive Diseases.

Patient selection: primary biliary cirrhosis

Outcome: event-free survival (EFS) with hepatic events being ascites, variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatorenal syndrome, primary liver cancer, liver-associated death

albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) score =

= (0.66 * LOG10(serum total bilirbun in µmol/L)) - (0.085 * (serum albumin in g/L))
