Description

Guha et al report a score based on the ALBI (a measure of hepatic function) and FIB-4 (a measure of fibrosis) scores to evaluate a patient with compensated cirrhosis. This new score can help to identify a patient who may decompensate. The authors are from Nottingham University, University of Liverpool, Mater Misericordiae University (Dublin), University of Bologna and Menoufia University (Egypt).

Patient selection: 18 to 75 years with compensated cirrhosis

Parameters:

(1) ALBI score (which can have a negative value)

(2) FIB4 score

ALBI-FIB4 score =

= (1.331 * (ALBI)) + (0.165 * (FIB4))

Interpretation:

A score > -1.822 indicates high risk of decompensation.

A score <= -1.822 is at low risk for decompensation
