Description

Patidar et al reported a model for predicting acute kidney injury (AKI) in a hospitalized patient with cirrhosis. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Indiana University, California Pacific Medical Center, Cook County Health and Hospitals System, Boston University, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Patient selection: hospitalized patient with cirrhosis

Outcome: AKI during the first week of admission

Parameters on admission:

(1) WBC in 10^9/L

(2) INR

(3) serum creatinine in mg/dL

X =

= (0.089 * (WBC)) + (0.87 * (serum creatinine)) + (0.65 * (INR)) - 4.59

probability of AKI =

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.70.
