Description

A patient with advanced HIV disease may develop a range of biliary tract disorders.


 

Types of biliary tract diseases that may AIDS-related:

(1) AIDS cholangiopathy (AIDS-related secondary sclerosing cholangitis)

(2) stenosis at the ampulla of Vater (included with AIDS cholangiopathy)

(3) acalculous cholecystitis

(4) malignant lymphoma

(5) cholangiocarcinoma (secondary to cholangiopathy)

 

Differential diagnosis:include biliary tract disease unrelated to HIV infection:

(1) cholelithiasis

(2) primary sclerosing cholangitis

(3) trematode
