Aggressive Posterior Retinopathy of Prematurity (AP-ROP) is an aggressive form of ROP.
Synonym: Rush type of ROP
Incidence: 2.5% of cases of ROP
Features:
(1) posterior location (zone I or posterior zone II)
(2) PLUS disease, with vessels showing dilatation and tortuosity out of proportion to the peripheral retinopathy
(3) rapidly progressive, reaching Stage 5 if untreated
Additional findings may include:
(1) retinal hemorrhages at the junction between vascularized and avascular retina
(2) a circumferential vessel
(3) persistent tunica vasculosa lentis
(4) flat growth of neovascularization
(5) retinal detachment
