Laer et al developed a dosing regimen for sotalol for pediatric patients with supraventricular tachycardia. The authors are from University Dusseldorf, University of Tennessee, University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and the University of Gottingen.
Patient selection: pediatric patients from 10 days old (0.03 years) to 17 years old with supraventricular tachycardia
Neonates showed a greater sensitivity for QTc interval prolongation during sotalol therapy compared to older pediatric patients.
Sinus rhythm was present in 50% when the trough sotalol plasma concentration was 0.4 µg/mL and > 95% when 1.0 µg/mL.
The maximum dose was 10 mg/kg per day.
Parameters for dosing regimen:
(1) age
(2) body weight in kilograms
