Description

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a psychoactive cannabinoid. It differs structurally from delta-9 THC, which is the form mentioned in legislation. Since the 2008 Farm Bill that allows of hemp-based products, it has become widely available. As it becomes more accessible the number of side effects have increased.


Psychoactive or neurologic:

(1) psychosis

(2) seizures

(3) agitation

(4) anxiety

(5) paranoia

(6) functional impairment

(7) dizziness

(8) confusion

Other adverse effects include:

(1) hyperemesis

(2) bradypnea

(3) cough and respiratory tract irritation

(4) abdominal discomfort, nausea and/or vomiting

(5) asthmatic attact

(6) chest pain

(7) malaise

(8) tachycardia

(9) Brugada pattern on the ECG

 

The risk of adverse reaction is higher in overdosage and multiple drug ingestions, but reactions can occur with regular usage.

 

Some of the adverse effects may be due to contaminants or to chemicals used to extract the product.

 

Delta-8-THC gives a positive result on standard screening tests for marijuana.
