A woman may wear high-heel shoes for fashion or to appear more attractive. However, these shoes may have a number of adverse effects.


Adverse effects of wearing high heels may include

(1) sprains and strains to the ankle and foot

(2) muscle strains

(3) osteoarthritis

(4) hallux valgus

(5) falls

 

Stiletto heels are associated with penetrating injuries at multiple sites.

 

Risk factors for falls:

(1) intoxication

(2) slick surfaces

(3) uneven surface

(4) inexperience

 

With long-term use the wearer develops muscles and reflexes that improve stability.
