Description

Adrenal fusion is a rare congenital disorder of the adrenal glands.

Adrenal fusion is usually associated with multiple congenital anomalies, many of which involve midline structures. Common sites include central nervous system, heart, kidneys and genitalia. It may also be associated with a short umbilical cord.

Pattern of fusion:

(1) horseshoe

(2) butterfly

(3) other

The histology and adrenal function are typically normal. If the total volume of the adrenal tissue is significantly reduced then there may be a reduction in function.
