Description

The term "active urine sediment" refers to changes seen with intrinsic renal disease such as acute glomerulonephritis.

Findings in active urine sediment:

(2) red blood cell casts

(3) granular casts

An active urine sediment is usually associated with gross color changes with proteinuria and a positive dipstick test for blood.
