Acne mechanica is an acne-like skin eruption associated with mechanical forces such as pressure and friction.
People at risk:
(1) certain athletes
(2) people using crutches (in the axillae)
(3) amputees with a limb prosthesis
Features:
(1) presence of a papulopustular eruption
(2) distribution in a region exposed to some combination of friction, pressure, occlusion and heat
(3) resolution of skin eruption after reduction or elimination of precipitating factors
