Description

Throwing a strong acid onto a person is a form of violence.


Access to strong acid is relatively easy in many parts of the world, making it accessible.

 

Motivation:

(1) to get revenge

(2) to make an example (terrorize)

 

In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh a primary target is a young woman who has refused a man (for marriage, sex, etc) who becomes angry.

 

Complications:

(1) blindness

(2) facial disfigurement

(3) keloid formation

(4) deafness

(5) difficulty eating, drinking or breathing

(6) alopecia

(7) poverty

(8) depression and/or suicide

 

Acid may also be poured on the property of victim, such as an automobile.
