Taylan et al reported the ACEF-LA score for predicting recurrence of atrial fibrillation after cryoablation. This is based on combining the ACEF score with the left atrial diameter. The authors are from Trakya University, Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, and Kartal Kosuyolu Hospital in Turkey.
Patient selection: status post cryoablation of atrial fibrillation
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) ejection fraction in percent
(3) serum creatinine in mg/dL
(4) left atrial diameter in cm

ACEF-LA score =
= SUM(points for all of the parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: < 1 (depending on age and ejection fraction)
• maximum score: > 12, with the maximum seen in the study around 2.8
• A score < 1.15 is associated with low risk of recurrence.
• A score > 1.711 is associated with a high risk of recurrence.
Total Score
Risk of Recurrence
< 1.153

1.153 to 1.711
moderate to high
> 1.711
high
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve for recurrence of atrial fibrillation is 0.77.
