Grant et al reported the simple ACE index for evaluating a patient with acute ulcerative colitis. This can help to identify a patient at risk for being a nonresponder to IV corticosteroids. The authors are from Western General Hospital, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh and John Radcliffe Hospital.
Patient selection: acute ulcerative colitis
Parameters on admission:
(1) serum albumin in g/L
(2) serum CRP in mg/L
(3) endoscopic severity
