Method for inducing hypoxia:
(1) manual strangulation (between partners)
(2) plastic bag over the head
(3) inhalants such as propane
(4) rope or strap around the neck
Criteria:
(1) The body is often found in the victim's residence or in a hotel room, although occasionally it may be found outdoors.
(2) The door to the room may be locked on the inside.
(3) There is evidence of sexual stimulation (pornography, woman's clothing, etc.).
(4) If the hands are bound the bonds are able to be self-tied.
(5) There is no evidence of a homicide or suicide.
There should be a toxicologic examination to detect the presence of illegal stimulants (methamphetamines, cocaine, etc.) which may contribute to the death.
The post-mortem examination should take into account the possibility that a family member or spouse has altered the scene to be less embarrassing (see 38.22.04).
