Pregnancy is a common time for women to suffer physical abuse. The Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) can be used to rapidly screen a pregnant woman for physical abuse.
The instrument consists of 5 questions.
A positive response to items 2 and/or 3 should be further characterized by:
(1) perpetrator
(2) number of episodes
(3) score for the type of abuse at each episode
Perpetrator:

(2) ex-husband
(3) boyfriend
(4) stranger
(5) other
