Abnormal striae (striae distensae) may be a finding associated with Marfan syndrome. To support the diagnosis of Marfan syndrome these striae must meet a number of criteria.
The striae may be located in an uncommon location:
(1) midback or lumbar region
(2) thigh
(3) upper arm and/or axillary region
The diagnosis requires exclusion of other causes of striae:
(1) marked change in weight
(2) pregnancy
(3) Cushing syndrome
