Description

The ACTTION-APS Pain Taxonomy (AAPT) have reported criteria for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. The authors are from the American Pain Society and multiple institutions from around the world.


Core diagnostic criteria that must be present for >= 3 months:

(1) >= 6 out of 9 pain sites (multisite pain)

(2) at least one of the following

(2a) fatigue

(2b) moderate to severe sleep problems

 

Sites:

(1) head

(2) left arm

(3) right arm

(4) chest

(5) abdomen

(6) upper back and spine

(7) lower back, spine and buttocks

(8) left leg

(9) right leg

 

Common features supportive of the diagnosis:

(1) tenderness of soft tissue and muscles to pressure

(2) dyscognition (difficulty concentrating, slow thinking, forgetfulness, etc)

(3) musculoskeletal stiffness

(4) sensitivity to environmental factors (bright lights, noise, perfumes, cold, etc)
