The Netherlands Cancer Institute proposed a simple, user-friendly staging system to describe the extent of cancer within the peritoneal cavity.
Patient selection: peritoneal carcinomatosis
The sites selected are the same as for the simplified PCI (see previous).
Sites evaluated (7):
(1) pelvis
(2) right lower abdomen
(3) omentum and transverse colon
(4) small bowel and its mesentery
(5) subhepatic space and stomach
(6) right subphrenic space
(7) left subphrenic space
where:
• There is no left lower abdomen.

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 7
• A score >= 6 is a contra-indication for combinated modality treatment.
