A number ofaminoalkylbenzofuran derivatives may be used as "club" drugs.
Structure: shared features with methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)
Example compounds:
(1) 5-APB: 5-(2-aminopropyl)benzofuran
(2) 5-MAPB: N-methyl-5-(2-aminopropyl)benzofuran
Desired effects: euphoria, stimulant, increased empathy
Adverse side effects:
(1) anxiety or agitation
(2) nystagmus
(3) jaw tension
(4) sweating/diapheresis
(5) hyperthermia
(6) insomnia
(7) tachycardia
(8) hypertension
(9) seizures
(10) psychosis
(11) elevated serum CK concentration
(12) elevated serum troponin concentration
(13) reduced level of consciousness
(14) death
