The International AIH Pathology Group reported criteria for the histologic criteria for autoimmune hepatitis. Criteria were given for both portal and lobular hepatitis. The authors are from multiple institutions from Europe, the United States and Australia.
Specimen: liver biopsy
Parameters:
(1) lobular inflammation (with or without centrilobular necrosis and/or inflammation)
(2) supportive features
(3) histologic features suggesting another diagnosis
Supportive features - one or more of the following:
(1) lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate in the lobule
(2) interface hepatitis
(3) portal-based fibrosis
