Description

Kiriyama et al reported the updated Tokyo criteria for acute cholangitis.


Criteria:

(A) systemic inflammation

(A1) fever (> 38°C) and/or shaking chills

(A2) laboratory markers of inflammation (WBC count < 4,000 per µL; WBC count > 10,000 per µL; serum CRP >= 1 mg/dL)

(B) cholestasis

(B1) jaundice (or serum total bilirubin >= 2 mg/dL)

(B2) abnormal liver function tests (AST, ALT, GGT, alkaline phosphatase): > 1.5 times ULN

(C) imaging studies

(C1) biliary dilatation

(C2) evidence of cause (stricture, stone, stent, etc)

 

Definite diagnosis: (one from A) AND (one from B) and (one from C)

 

Suspected diagnosis: (one from A) and (one from B or C)
