Dissemination in space in multiple sclerosis is identified by demonstration of multifocal CNS lesions on brain MRI.
Method of analysis: MRI
Dissemination in space is defined as >= 1 T2-hyperintense lesions in >= 2 of the following areas in the CNS:
(1) periventricular region of the brain
(2) cortical/juxtacortical region of the brain
(3) infratentorial region of the brain
(4) spinal cord
Gadolinium enhancement is not a required feature.
