Description

The Japanese Pancreas Society (JPS) revised its criteria for autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) in 2006.


 

Criteria:

(1) imaging studies showing (diffuse or segmental narrowing of the pancreatic duct with an irregular wall ) AND (diffuse or localized enlargement of the pancreas)

(2) serum showing (high concentrations of IgG) OR (high concentrations of IgG4) OR (autoantibodies)

(3) marked interlobular fibrosis and prominent lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate in the peri-ductal area, occasionally with lymphoid infiltrates in the pancreas

 

where:

• Imaging studies may include ultrasonography, CT or MRI.

• Autoantibodies may include ANA or rheumatoid factor.

 

The diagnosis of AIP is based on all of the following:

(1) criterion 1

(2) one or both of criteria 2 and 3

(3) exclusion of pancreatobiliary malignancy
