Description

Graessel et al reported a shorter version of the 28-item Burden Scale for Family Caregivers (BSFC). The authors are from Friedrich-Alexander Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg in Germany.


Patient selection: age >= 65 years, mild to moderate dementia (Mini-Mental State Examination score 10 to 24 points)

 

Parameters:

(1) reduced life satisfaction

(2) physical exhaustion

(3) wish to run away

(4) depersonalization

(5) decreased standard of living

(6) health affected by caregiving

(7) caregiving is taking strength (fatigue)

(8) conflicting demands

(9) worried about the future

(10) relationships with others suffering

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 30

• The higher the score the greater the caregiver burden.
