Vinyl chloride disease describes a constellation of findings that occur in workers handling vinyl chloride and its polymerization over many years.
Vinyl chloride = chlorethyelene
Clinical features of vinyl chloride disease:
(1) acro-osteolysis (lysis of distal phalanges of the hands and feet) and osteolysis in other bones
(2) scleroderma-like skin
(3) Raynaud's phenomenon
(4) thrombocytopenia
(5) portal fibrosis and/or impaired hepatic function
(6) impaired pulmonary function
Severely affected workers show significant disability.
