Description

Fat loss ("fat burning") associated with exercise can be estimated from the oxygen uptake and duration of the exercise.

Parameters:

(1) oxygen uptake in mL per minute

(2) duration of exercise in minutes

liters of oxygen consumed =

= (oxygen uptake) * (minutes of exercise) / 1000

number of kilocalories consumed =

= 5 * (liters of oxygen consumed)

number of pounds of fat consumed =

= (number of kilocalories consumed) / 3500

where:

• 1 pound of fat corresponds to 3500 kilocalories.
