Description

A gastric MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma can be described using the TNM staging system.

normal appearing, erythema, erosions, nodules < 0.3 cm, ulcers < 1.0 cm, tumor limited to mucosa and submucosa

 

T2

induration, nodules >= 0.3 cm and < 5 cm, ulcers >= 1.0 cm, tumor extending to muscularis propria

 

T3

mass >= 5 cm, with tumor extending to serosa

 

T4

mass >= 5 cm, with direct invasion into adjacent organs

N

N0

no lymph node involvement

 

N1

perigastric lymph node involvement

 

N2

regional lymph node involvement

 

N3

lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm

M

M0

no distant metastases

 

M1

bone marrow involvement, other visceral involvement, second extranodal site

 

where:

• Measurements indicate maximum dimension out of three dimensions.

• Regional lymph node involvement includes retroperitoneum, mesenteric and para-aortic groups.
