As the banana ripens further the brown color becomes the dominant color.

 

Shipping is best in Stages 1 and 2.

Grocers tend to display Stages 4 to 6.

Stages 6 and 7 are good for eating.

The ability to sell bananas declines as the amount of brown increases.

 

Eventually the banana will start to rot and decay.
