Description

Liu et al developed an algorithm for predicing the risk of recurrent panic disorder. This can help to evaluate and manage a patient with a history of panic disorder. The authors are from the University of Calgary and the University of Winnipeg in Canada.


 

Patient selection: history of panic disorder

 

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) panic disorder in past 12 months (exclusion of substance-induced)

(3) nicotine dependence prior to the past 12 months

(4) rapid heartbeat or tachycardia in the past 12 months

(5) choking sensation

(6) after an episode worried for at least 1 month that there would be another

(7) doctor prescribed medication for panic attack

(8) often felt empty inside

(9) had a lot of mood changes

(10) parents or caregivers had pushed, grabbed, shoved, slapped or hit the patient before 18 years of age
