Description

Cannie et al developed an equation for predicting fetal body volume based on gestational age. This is based on body volumes measured in utero by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The authors are from University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium.

Patient selection: gestational age from 100 to 260 days

Parameters:

(1) gestational age in days

predicted fetal body volume in mL =

= (0.0698 * ((gestational age)^2)) – (5.3597 * (gestational age)) – 428.5

Performance:

• The presence of growth retardation or macrosomy would result in observed volumes much different from that predicted.

• The gestational age must be accurate for an accurate prediction.
