Description

A cheerleader may be at increased risk for a number of problems.


 

Risks directly associated with being a cheerleader:

(1) fall injury

(2) concussion

(3) vocal cord stress injuries (voice overuse, dysphonia)

(4) heat exposure

(5) cold exposure

(6) sun exposure

(7) joint sprains and other injuries

 

Risks seen in people who want to be cheerleaders:

(1) idiopathic condylar resorption (cheerleader’s syndrome)

(2) body dysmorphic syndrome

(3) eating disorders

(4) sexually-transmitted disease (STDs)
