Description

Treasure et al developed a model for predicting mortality following a lung resection. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management or an alternative therapy. The authors are from Guy's Hospital, University College London and the Royal Devon & Exeter Trust in England.

Patient selection: lung resection

Outcome: cumulative mortality

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) predicted postoperative FEV1 as percent of predicted

X =

= (0.0501 * (age in years)) - (0.0218 * (predicted postoperative FEV1)) - 5.8858

probability of mortality =

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))
