An older adult may be at risk for a sexually-transmitted disease (STD) if a "swinging" lifestyle is pursued. HIV and other STDs can occur at any age.
Behaviors shown by swingers:
(1) mate swapping
(2) group sex
(3) attend sex clubs for couples
(4) sexual holidays or tourism
Risk factors for sexually transmitted disease (STD) in an older adult:
(1) intoxication
(2) multiple partners
(3) contact with a high risk group, either direct or indirect
(4) risk-taking behaviors
(5) use of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) or other medications to reverse impotence
(6) failure to recognize and/or report signs and symptoms associated with an STD
(7) failure to use a condom and other forms of protection
A swinger's spouse may be totally unaware of the partner's behavior and so develop an STD while denying risk factors.
