Description

A subperiosteal hematoma may be recurrent if certain risk factors are present.


 

Risk factors for recurrent subperiosteal hematoma:

(1) repeated trauma

(2) neurofibromatosis

(3) anatomic location with relatively loose periosteum (like the orbit)

(4) bleeding disorder or anticoagulation

(5) vascular malformation or pseudoaneurysm

(6) sickle cell disease or other unstable hemoglobinopathy
