Description

A number of risk factors may be associated with a woman denying that she is pregnant.


 

Risk factors for a denial of pregnancy:

(1) young age (adolescent)

(2) intellectual impairment

(3) social isolation

(4) substance abuse

(5) severe psychiatric problem

(6) irregular menses

(7) failure to remember an episode of sexual intercourse (perhaps associated with intoxication) or ignorance of the fact that sexual intercourse leads to pregnancy

(8) obesity

(9) ascribing signs and symptoms of pregnancy to another condition

(10) anger at the father

(11) repressed sexuality

(12) conservative religious background

(13) poor relationship with mother or father

(14) fear of abandonment
