Description

Range anxiety refers to a driver's fear that the s/he may run out of fuel or electricity prematurely. This has become an issue for owners of electric cars who live in areas where recharging stations are few and far between.

Risk factors for range anxiety:

(1) low fuel or energy level

(2) fuel station or recharging station not available

(3) weather conditions make running out of energy hazardous

(4) other environmental factors (driving in a bad part of town at night)

(5) need to travel (cannot afford to run out)

(6) uncertainty about how much fuel or energy is left

(7) anxiety disorder

(8) no cellphone to call for help

In rural parts of the United States a driver may buy a pickup truck with an extra or extra-large fuel tank because of the distances to refueling stations.
