Description

Abnormal uterine bleeding can be described by a number of features.


 

amenorrhea: absence of bleeding

hypomenorrhea: decreased bleeding, regular menstrual cycles

hypermenorrhea: excessive bleeding, regular menstrual cycles

polymenorrhea: frequent menses but regular (cycle less than 21 days)

menorrhagia: prolonged bleeding, regular intervals

metrorrhagia: bleeding at irregular intervals

menometrorrhagia: bleeding excessive and prolonged, irregular and frequent intervals

dysmenorrheal: painful menstruation
