Description

A patient with primary hypogammaglobulinemia may show a number of changes in the mouth.

Most common changes:

(1) recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAU)

(2) enamel hypoplasia

(3) dry mouth

Some patients may show:

(1) lichenoid lesions

(2) oral candidiasis

Fernandez et al did not find an increased rate of caries, gingivitis or periodontitis. However, patients were receiving immunoglobulin replacement and antibiotic therapy. It was not stated if a patient with hypogammaglobulinemia who develops gingivitis or periodontitis has a more severe infection.
