Description

Rawlings et al developed a nomogram for estimating blood volume in a neonate with polycythemia. The blood volume per kilogram body weight varies with the body weight. The authors are from Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.

(blood volume in mL) / (body weight in kilograms) =

= (-0.012 * (birthweight in grams)) + 124

blood volume in mL =

= ((-0.012 * (birthweight in grams)) + 124) * (birthweight in grams) / 1000

This could be rewritten:

blood volume in mL =

= (-0.000012 * ((birthweight in kg)^2)) + (124 * (birthweight in kg))
