Description

Cheng et al developed risk table for patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and cardiogenic shock. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam.

Patient selection: STEMI with cardiogenic shock undergoing PCI

Outcome: 30-day mortality

Parameters available at time of admission:

(1) serum creatinine relative to upper limit of normal for gender

(2) serum lactate in mmol/L

(3) age in years

Upper limit of serum creatinine for males: 115 µmol/L

Upper limit of serum creatinine for females: 90 µmol/L

where:

• The breakpoints have issues. There was no coverage for creatinine equal to ULN. Lactate overlaps at 5.1. Ages overlap at 65.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve was 0.75.
