Gynecomastia may show different mammographic patterns depending on a number of factors.

Laterality

Common Causes

unilateral

non-hormonal drugs; idiopathic gynecomastia

bilateral

hormone-induced; marijuana; cirrhosis; chronic renal dialysis; pubertal gynecomastia

 

Mammographic and clinical features suggesting breast carcinoma:

(1) mass located eccentrically relative to the nipple

(2) mass with irregular or spiculated outline

(3) numerous micro calcifications with irregular or angular shapes

(4) skin thickening

(5) nipple retraction
