Description

More severe turf toe injuries may require surgical repair to restore normal, stable anatomy to the hallus metatarsophalangeal joint.


 

Indications for surgery to repair a turf toe - one or more of the following:

(1) failure of conservative management

(2) large capsular avulsion with unstable metatarsophalangeal joint

(3) chondral injury in the metatarsophalangeal joint

(4) loose body in the metatarsophalangeal joint

(5) diastasis (dislocation) of bipartite sesamoid or sesamoid fracture

(6) retraction of sesamoid

(7) traumatic valgus deformity of the hallux

(8) vertical instability (positive Lachman test)
