Description

A person with nonischemic mitral regurgitation may benefit from surgical intervention if certain risk factors are present.


 

Indications for surgical correction of mitral regurgitation:

(1) severe, symptomatic regurgitation

(2) atrial fibrillation

(3) pulmonary hypertension

(4) left ventricular ejection fraction <= 60%

(5) left ventricular end-systolic diameter on echocardiography >= 45 mm
