Many people have safely enjoyed hot air balloon rides. However, accidents occur and these can result in serious injury and death.
Injuries may include:
(1) electrocution from running into power lines
(2) fracture (broken ankles, broken legs, other)
(3) being ejected from the basket or dragged along the ground
(4) other blunt or penetrating trauma
Risk factors for crashes:
(1) bad weather or lighting conditions
(2) pilot inexperience or error
(3) gondola or basket construction
(4) equipment failure or malfunction
(5) rapid descent with high speed impact with ground, tree or other object
(6) intoxication
