Description

The International Agranulocytosis and Aplastic Anemia Study defined criteria for agranulocytosis.

Criteria - both of the following:

(1) absolute neutrophil count < 500 per µL ( < 0.5 * 10^9/L) on 2 separate blood counts

(2) one or more of the following:

(2a) fever

(2b) clinical infection

(2c) clinical signs of septic shock (chills and sweating, hypotension, confusion)

where:

• I would also think that repeated positive blood cultures for a pathogen (bacteremia or fungemia) might also qualify, although that would constitute a clinical infection.

• I will use > 38.3°C (101 °F) to define fever in the spreadsheet.
