Description

De Lautour et al developed preliminary criteria for gout remission. The authors are from multiple institutions from around the world.


 

Patient selection: gout

 

Parameters:

(1) serum urate in mg/dL (mmol/L)

(2) tophus

(3) flares

(4) pain on 10 cm Likert scale over past 12 months

(5) patient global assessment on 10 cm Likert scale over past 12 months

 

Assessments should be performed:

(1) over a 12 month period

(2) at least twice

(3) equally spaced over the time interval

 

Criteria for remission - all of the following:

(1) no serum urate concentrations >= 6 mg/dL (0.36 mmol/L)

(2) no tophi

(3) no flares

(4) no gouty pain scored >= 2

(5) no global assessment >= 2

 

Limitations:

• These criteria need to be verified in clinical trials.

• Pain may be misclassified by patients.
