Description

A patient with a pulmonary arteriovenous fistula (PAVF) may present with a number of clinical and laboratory findings.


 

Clinical findings:

(1) fatigue

(2) dyspnea

(3) chest pain

(4) hemoptysis

(5) syncope

 

Findings on physical exam:

(1) bruit on chest auscultation

(2) cyanosis

(3) digital clubbing

 

Laboratory findings:

(1) polycythemia (if chronic)

(2) hypoxemia that does not improve with administration of oxygen at an FIO2 1.0.
